Steering Wheel shake?

Postby RussMarc » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:48 am

My car is a 55 plate Megane 1.6 vvt, can anyone tell me what might be causing my steering wheel to wobble whilst driving? This happens at around 50-60 MPH whilst driving on the motorway. I can feel it shaking, if you momentarilly let go of the wheel you can see it wobbling from side to side. I've not checked my tire pressures for around 2 weeks so I might check that first. This appears to be intermittant but lately I'm beginning to notice it more over the past couple of days.
Thanks for reading this.
Russ.

steering wheel shaking at particular speeds usually means the front wheels need rebalancing, or maybe even a loose wheel, or somthing has failed in the steering/suspension area.
you need to get it looked at.

I'd get the front wheels balanced first. Take it into any tyre place avoid the likes of kwik fit/ats etc as a small independant will do exactly same thing and not scare the living daylights out of you by telling you your tyres need replacing and brakes are on way out!! ;-)
