i always leave mine in gear too,but if your not too keen on that you could turn the steering slightly so that if it were to move,it would roll up against the kerb.

Mine rolled into my friends garage door. Will never park without leaving it in gear again. :-(

Do you think it could be a fault or does it just need tightening?

The manual is speaking nonsense. You should always leave a car in gear. The Highway code says so as well.

Better in gear than to find it down a river or something.

Oh. I don't leave mine in gear, maybe i should now :o

My previous car was a 406 and they are famous on the Pug fourms for having a crap handbrake, mine was no exception so i always left that in gear but as soon as got the Meg i was so happy having a handbrake that actually worked that i don't bother.

Oooo... I don't leave mine in gear either... but I also have only parked on a slope half a dozen time. CeCe doesn't like being left on the street. Strictly secure off road parking for my hunny.

As I remember, the repair manual warns regarding turning the engine in the wrong direction. This may be different for different engines, but I always choose the 1st or reverse gear depending on the direction of slope.
