hi, so the AA man just came and ran a check on my car. He resetted something and the toxic fume lights gone but said the problem is with the Camshaft position sensor and i've still got to take it bk to dealer.
What does this mean? :?
Also the car, as i said on my previous post, is not even 24 hours old! is this normal, as such?

My light came on on 3 different occasions, with 3 different faults. The only time it flashed was when one of the ignition coils needed replacing - the car chugged and smelt of eggs at this point too. Both other times the light was on constantly - the first time resulted in a new TDC sensor (£200 parts and labour at Renault) and the second time was a faulty downstream emissions sensor thing (£200 parts and labour at Renault, got it done at a local garage for £80). If the car is brand spanking new, give it back!

yeah it is brand new has not even covered 50 miles when this happened!!
I never knew this was such a common thing with the megane or i wouldn't have got 1.
But when the AA come the guy didn't change any parts, he said he just resetted it?!?! so don't know what was wrong or how he fixed it! When I said what the problem was he replied 'oh the usual' ... how worrying!
It is under warranty for the next 3 years so it will get fixed regardless but it seems like a lot of hassle....but i absolutely love love love the car so much!

Can I join your gang?
I am also the proud owner of a Megane with a flashing toxic fume light. I've just returned from the local dealer to try and get some info but it seems cars and aren't his specialist subject!

To stop my festive dash and to stave off any potential seizures I intend to source some igntion coils and fit them myself - i refuse to give any more of my hard earned cash to Renault!

However, can anybody tell me, if i fit a set of coils myself will the car realise this and stop the fume light blinking at me? or will it need to be plugged into some electronic wizadry to do that?
Also, the 'fully trained personnel' at the local dealer was trying to tell me that coils have to be fitted at an approved dealer because 'they need coding'!!!! Surely not?

Any help or advice will be appreciated, as will any non-Renault priced suppliers.

Many thanks,
Paul Green.

Hi everyone, I worte on this forum before about my problem which was that the day I got my brand new megane 1.6 hachback the light came on solid. I called AA out as it was now late and i was already home and all he did was come out stick his computer in and resetted it. I havn't seen it since and I know he didn't replace any parts!!
So I don't think it is always a faulty part or anything!!

i don't bloody believe this! got my car back from garage friday afternoon, friday night the toxic fume light started flashing and the engine was noisy and struggling. looked on here, coil. limped it up to the parents as the rac cover only applies over quarter of mile away from home and they came out.

he was there in 20 minutes and i told him what it was doing, and he said before he plug the laptop in he could tell me know that is was a coil (which he had on board).

he also advice me that it would be a good idea to carry a spare coil on board just in case, and if one goes to swap them one at a time to find the knackered one.

so i thought i'd pass this advice on, keep a coil with you...dead easy to fit, one nut and they pull out.

what do you think my chances are of claiming back the £40.95 from the dealer as the car is still under warranty? the dealer is 10 miles away and I wasnt prepared to drive to there as i would have probably destroyed the 'cat' and done god knows what to the engine

You have to have an angry face when you walk in and ask to speak to the manager. Be ready to be told all the stories under the stars, you might want to take a violin with you. ;-)

Hi I have an 07 reg 1.6VVT megane thats just over one year old and has done about 13,000 miles. Approx 2 weeks ago the toxic fume filter light started to flash. I had done about 35 miles and was only travelling at approx 30mph. The light flashed for a few seconds and then went out. I took it to a main renault dealer who, having had the car for a day, said they had found no faults and had reset the computer.

Two weeks later, and having travelled a similar distance yesterday, the same thing happened. This time the light flashed for about a minute or two, then went out, only to do it again for a few seconds a minute or two later. Having done the same journey in reverse to get home, no problems. I'm going back to renault today to get it booked in - but does anyone have any ideas that might help me out.

I would like to think its only ignition coils as at least this would be a simple fix, however, I have none of the other symptons. The car drives beautifully even when the light flashes, with no noticeable loss of power or unusual noises. Any help would be much appreciated. I love the car to bits, but I'm starting to lose my confidence.

Many thanks!

All they will do is run a clip on it, if you're lucky, they might have paid a good 5 minutes attention to it.

Also, I would have asked them if they found no faults why would they need to reset the computer?

It could be an early warning sign for a coil. if you arent a member of AA/RAC, i would suggest you keep a spare coil and a 10mm socket in car just in case.

But if a coil does go, the dealer will point blankly refuse to reimburse you and feed you some crap along the lines of "as we did not diagnose it, it's not our problem", and you don't really want to be driving the car far with a dead coil as it can damage other parts. On the plus side thou' you'd get a 2 year warranty on the coil if the AA/RAC/etc.. fit it.

Thanks for your quick reply - I have it booked in again for Wednesday - I'll ask about the computer reset. You make a really good point! I didn't think of it like that!

Are there any good instructions on how to change a coil? - I'd be quite happy to pick up some spares to carry in the car, but I would have no idea where they go etc. I'd like to learn how to change the coils (assuming that someone like me who isn't very mechanically minded can do this) so if anyone can help!

Cheers.

Sorry - also meant to ask (though there's probably an obvious answer) what's a CLIP?

Cheers!!!

clip = diagnostic cable.

coils are dead easy, not even a 5 minute job.

Undo wire, undo bolt, pull coil out, put new coil in, do up bolt, plug wire back in. job done.
