Tuning box

Postby potdci » Sat Dec 15, 2007 10:45 am

Hi all,
i have just fitted a tuning box to my 1.9dci 120bhp and it should be now up to about 145bhp i might be able to notice a slight difference but it is still no where near my dads standard Golf 140tdi even tho the Megane is a lighter car.

whats going on? Cheers Drew.

does the bx have an adjustment screw on it or is it all digital? on a lot of them you can adjsut between economy or power. most come preset between the 2.

unfortunately all tuning boxes do is up the fuelling, they arent very progressive so might not feel as fast as they may well be. the extar power they give usually all comes at once so you'll get more of a shove at a certain point and that'll be it.

mines going in for a remap next week. +30 bhp and 54 lb/ft but it will be progressive acroos the revs, not all at one point.

Thanks Deano,
No i cant see any ajustment screw unless i have to open the box which i very much doubt, like i say it has made a slight difference but not what i expected at all.

Will you let me no how you go on with the re-map?

maybe im just expecting too much but im only comparing it to a golf 140tdi.

will do mate, ive had cars remapped by these guys before and i can honestly say the difference after is usually very very noticeable.

to be fair if the box says it should give you an extra 25bhp, you should notice it as thats a big increase (20%).

the 2.0tdi in the VAG lumps is a pokey engine, very torquey as standard and i'd go as far to say would still be quicker than a remapped 1.9 anyway.

no offence mate, but a decent tuning box is usually at least £250 going up to over £400. for something that was only £60 i'd have my concerns aboit it not being much kop

Yes i do no what you mean guys... but after reading a few posts i diddent want to spend £300-£400 to find out they were not all that much better.

I have just been out in it again and it has made a difference but i would'nt say 30bhp like stated but it is probably worth £60 but no more tho lol.

Again let us no how the re-map goes.

yeah will do mate.

to be fair at least you gave it a go and now you know. I'm paying 300 for the remap plus an extra £40 for a BMC panel filter. for that i get a pre remap roadtest and checkover, the remapping, post remap road test with acceleration tests etc.

the mapping gets done across the whole rev range so the car will be more powerful at any given point, plus if you drive it in the same way it will be more fuel efficient and probably be better on emissions come mot time too.

Just unplugged the box today and noticed a huge difference!

i did'nt notice much when the power went up but when it goes down its as if the brakes are stuck on lol

Anyway i am going to try a DTUK CR+ box this weekend that i found on ebay, has anyone tryed 1 of these its ajustable and i think it was about £200 new.
