Remapping the 1.9 DCI 120
Hi guys i'm just getting to know my new Megane, it's a 2003 megane sport hatch 1.9 DCI 120 Dynamique 3 door. I've been considering 'chipping' or 're-mapping' the car to bost the power to about 150bhp. I've looked at https://www.angel-tuning.co.uk which they quote £325 for such work to be carried out. I'm around the leeds area (and manchester at weekends), does anyone know if i can this done a bit cheaper or if it is even worth doing at all? Also does it affect the emissions for MOT's etc (if re-mapped). I've never 'modded' a car in anyway before so i'm completely new at it, i'd just like a bit more poke under my right foot but dont want to spend too much of the old mula-we're all suffering from a tighter pocket these days with the current country leaders!!!
You'll see around 150bhp after a remap and a lot more torque. Your fuel consumption will be lower if you are always using all the extra power. If you are careful your consumption should go down because it takes les work to give the same result. The emissions will be OK as well. You could always get a tuning box, same result for less money
As you can see by my sig. i have a 'plug in' & it makes the engine sooo much more flexible,pulls to over 4000 rpm easily + fuel consumtion went from 52 ish to 56/57 all the time,but do not accept your computor readout,always work out your consumption on paper (see 'how to' in my sticky,under fuel consumption.) Bear in mind that your consumption will increase this time of year,with the air entering the intake being so much colder than in the summer.

Angel Tuning have a very good reputation over at the Fiat Forum (where I used to go after owning a Punto). For a good quality remap or plug-in box you'll need to spend that kind of money - it takes a not insignificant amount of time to develop these things, and offer fitting services, and other customer service functions (I think Angel will redo the remap for minimal cost if a dealer overwrites their map).

i'm picking up my 120 DCi tomorrow. Angel tuning will be remapping it after christmas. Mu old Alfa JTD was remapped by them and i cant say good enough things about them.
i'm not a fan of the tuning boxes personally. they tend to be pretty crude and lump all the increase in power in one hit putting a lot of stress on various components and parts. custom remaps are a lot more car friendly and also usually a lot more gainful (if that makes sense )

I am looking to do this to potentialy my Megane.
To cut a long story short I went from a Civic Type R to a Megane then hated it and went back to a Type R.
Now the last few years I have become less interested in cars like I used to with the Civic and have grown up a little I guess, and realised there are more things to life. So with a good couple of years saving ahead I am cutting my outgoings, the Civic is going, I am paying what I owe and the remainings will be buying another car. However seeing as my dad had the Megane I originally brought, he has offered it me back at a family rate so I want to change what I hated on it originally and it should be great
The first is the power delivery, have you found once chipped that it pulls better low down and there is no hesitation? As I felt like I was waiting for Christmas sometimes, I would put my foot down and it would think about it, then the power would kick in and it would be off. I thought it was me used to my Civic but I drove a Seat Leon TDI and that was great, power there straight away as soon as you put your foot down.
The other is the handling and wallowyness of it, so would look at changing the suspension on it. I would look at just springs but all seem to lower it and thats neccessarily what I want, just a little stiffer, so perhaps Coilovers but would this then make it a little too stiff
Do Koni make a kit at all for these with say using some Eibach springs? as I know this was a popular choice on the Civic for those that didn't want it too hard like coilovers.
