Well I never thought Id see the day!!

Postby L33SA » Sun Jul 01, 2007 9:17 am

My other half has just sold his 225 to make way for new A4 1.8T..definitely the right choice since the warranty has just ran out and we needed a slightly bigger car 8)

And my meg has been sat on our drive all week since its just got no power and cuts out everytime I break  Its going to Renault tomorrow but I am just completely fed up! I always said id keep it until its death (or at least til I could afford a new 1 series beemer  ) because I really did love it that much.

Anyway, yesterday I went car hunting, because I decided that there is no point having a lovely car if its broke as much as it is. I went to look at Audi A2 and a new astra, and came home with the astra 1.8 :? It was so lovely to drive I couldn't believe it, so smooth I thought it was the best choice of my life 8)

UNTIL I GOT HOME AN PARKED IT NEXT TO MY MEG! The astra is top spec and looks lovely, but next to meg it looks like something my nan would drive.

So the question is AM I CRAZY or just fed up

Has anyone else got so fed up with all the problems that they just had to get rid?? My other half and dad are made up, because they will no longer have to worry every time I go on the motorway, or lend me money to get it fixed

I will post pics later!

I'm at that stage.
My Meg is cutting out on start up and injection faults until it's at full normal working temp.

It's all under warranty but it's just a hassle to take time off work or just get to the dealer extra early to drop the car off.

I'm looking at an Audi A3 or A4 2.0 TDI Sport/S-Line ideally but there's nothing on the market I like within my price range. Or a Golf GTTDI 150. Or a Mercedes C-Class 220 CDI.

Yes, I was fed up to the back teeth with my 06 Meg that I had to get rid of it after only 10 months.

I bought a new A3 SE Sportback Tiptronic in March and I haven't looked back. Lot more money, but its in a totally different league :)

Good luck with your new car :)

After driving it for a good few miles today and on the motorway I've decided it was def. the right decision! I bought it private but its still under warranty and my meg isn't any more (they should come with a free lifetime warranty)

It may not look as good but its still nice and will be reliable hopefully, something I really need with the amount of miles I do! And Ive got leather now 8)

When meg is back from the cowboys at renault im going to put it in the trader at a giveaway price, so it goes before something else goes wrong with it. But every time I see one like mine I think il be gutted

On a postive note though - I can start saving for my 1 series now, because I wont be paying for diagnostic checks every other week 8) *touch wood*

All seems a bit sad to me, ok Audi and BMW put together some really great cars these days, I drove an Audi A3 1.9tdi last Wednesday, such a good drive, powerful and very punchy from low revs. (not like an "old style diesel").

But are we all missing the point here?

The Meg is a medium priced well specified car that no doubt has it's faults. If we are all going to buy an Audi A3 or a BMW 1 series, why would we have a Meg in the first place and then decide to slag it off when we could afford a "good car". My friend has just replaced his turbo - Audi A4 1.9tdi - just out of warranty - £1100 +vat!!

Value for money against overpriced (but no doubt very good cars).

Seriously - I hope you enjoy your latest aquisition, but if it goes wrong I think you will be paying a lot more than you would at a Renault dealer to have things put right!

Just my opinion

No one is slaggin it off, I wanted to keep the meg til its death I love the car and all its gadgets and ive just paid around the same price for the astra and you don't get half the gadgets or half the look!

But how much can I be prepared to take - you don't know half the problems ive had, I need to do a lot of miles every day and I work full time, I just havent got the patience to take it the dealers as much as it needs to go lately. And a 3 week wait to get it in?? Not good when the car isn't safe to drive.

If my 06 Reg Megane had been as good as my previous 53 Reg I would still have it now, but unfortunately it wasn't and I think having to have a new automatic gearbox fitted after 3,000 miles I am entitled to slag it off

Just because you are buying a cheaper car it doesn't mean that you should have to put up with faults & problems and just accept them.

I saw my first 53 Reg Megane the other day and it made me feel quite sad as I had genuine affection for that car and I was always singing its praises on this Forum as many members will remember. I only changed it because I needed to have automatic, but it was that part of the car that gave me massive aggro (amongst other things), not helped by the dealer saying there was nothing wrong with it......... then 3 months later saying I needed a new gearbox after it went bang on the way home from work.

Rant over :D

Hi guys (and gals)

Sorry if my previous post came over as being nasty or disrespectful.

It wasn't meant to be that way, you all have perfectly good (and in most cases - expensive) reasons to part company with your Meganes.

I suppose that I have been very fortunate to have only minor niggles with mine, we will see what happens if I decide to keep the car post warranty! :D

Regards to all

No offence taken here at all

I think it is difficult in text to get your point accross sometimes without it coming out the wrong way :?

I am pleased your Meg is a good one and long may it continue to be :D

None taken here either! 8)

Just had a call from renault and cant believe the price ive just been quoted to fix it

Sadly, its not worth me getting it done and ive got to go and pick it up. The price they want to fix it is more than il probably get for the car, im devestated and probably just going to have to put it through the auctions.

If they don't get to drive it it should do top whack, cos it looks fantastic! But if they get to drive it................... :( :( :(
