Stickies for fuel consumption

Postby 72uoba » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:26 pm

Evening all,

I was wondering whether it might be an idea to have sticky topics for fuel consumption for each available Megane engine size? It seems to be a topic that arises fairly commonly but any posts lose value as incomparable figures are bandied about all over the place! If there was a specific place to post regarding one's particular engine's consumption, then one would be able to garner far more useful information from fellow members' experiences.

Just a thought as I was considering a new post about my 1.4's mpg

Hi

I think it's a great idea, would provide a good cross section of consumptions and provide a member's reference section if people are concerned about their Meg's frugality!!

Petrol vs diesel etc.!

Just as a preliminary benchmark - I have never seen more than 42.7mpg on my trip computer, and never less than 26.9mpg.

How does yours fare?? :D

Regards

My best was 40.5 mpg on a 160 mile journey with an average speed of 59 mph. My usual is around 36 mpg at an average speed of 23 mph. Initially I was getting 33 mpg as the engine was running in.

I get between 33 round town and 38 on a gentle long run. Mines a 1.6 auto so the consumption is a bit higher.

I think it's a very good idea to have stickies. Perhaps even a new subforum might be the answer since having loads of stickies means more scrolling before a new post can be seen.

As for my mpg, so far I've only done a single brim-to-brim, and that calculated out at 57.7mpg

Knocking around I get anywhere between 47-52MPG, on longer runs this goes up to about 55MPG as long as I keep it below 80MPH after that it drops down to high 40's low 50's

Best I've ever had was 66MPG whilst pottering around the lanes of Norfolk last year.

Mine is around the same as yours Iain, although never up to 66mpg.

As far as I recall 62mpg was my highest and that was sitting behind a lorry, doing 55mph afetr my bumper smashed when I ran a partridge over!

I have a new record for my 1.9DCi Scenic! :D :D :D

I managed to get 1010km (631.25 Miles) on a tank driving around 30% urban and 70% highway. Aircon was on for most of this duration due to the warmer weather. I did not drive the car over 120km/hr at any time - I was on an experiment to see if I could crack the 1000km for a tank, and proved it can be done with a light foot, and keeping that speed down! :P

When I filled the car up she took 56.2 Litres - 12.362245 Gallons - that means I averaged 51.06 MPG which I think is really good! :)

I am on a long haul tomorrow from Luxembourg to Bordeaux in France - 1110 kms in a day - If I am really careful (and I don't get too bored with the slower speed) I may go for the trip down there on one tank!! For this to be possible I will have to average 56.6mpg - possible with care I'm sure... Wish me luck fellow Megane and Scenic owners!

Will.

Cheers for the replies - I think they prove the point!

(I only get 33mpg with my 1.4 with mostly A-road driving at speed limits  )

That sounds a bit low. Mine only did that whilst running in. When I had my first service at 12 months (9,000 miles on the clock) the guy at the service desk mentioned something about having installed a software upgrade that would improve my mpg. My average speed at the moment varies in the range of 22 to 25 mph giving consumption around 36 to 38 mpg.
Check that your brakes aren't rubbing and that your tyres are inflated to the right amount.

Yeah, I was expecting it to be more around your mark. I shall have to check the rear brakes to see if they're catching; tyre pressures are spot-on, though.
