Meg origin

Postby AlexB » Fri Mar 25, 2005 12:04 pm

After browsing the Parker's forum I discovered that many people have problems with Megane II, but mine is OK apart from minor things. Is it possible that some of RHD Meganes are produced in a "bad" factory? Antmat provided us with the following information:
"Laguna ll is produced at Sandouville (Fr.).

Mégane ll is produced at Douai (Fr.)

& in Spain and Turkey! Logically I would think that the RHDs are produced in France but on reflection........

I will try to get this info on my car. If somebody else contributes, then we could get an interesting statistics.

:) Douai is in France not far from Lille. It is on the River Tours and is famous for the French Mining School and little else.

When I met a guy from my dealers some time ago, he said that the car was most likely built in France. I'll try to get more info when arranging the 18k service.

My car was shipped from Santander which is in Spain - had a slip of paper in the glove box with bar codes and other numbers and reference codes. So unless the cars have different stages of manufacture in different locations I presume I've got a Spanish one?

For the record I've had no problems with mine.

I think all but the sedan version are now build at Palência - Spain.
Some initial models where build at Douai - France, but I think they don't produce méganes anymore (maybe scénics and sportier versions thou).
The sedan version (4 doors) is built in Turkey.

I would have thought the country of manufacture would be part of the Vin plate. It is on VW's anyway.

My Megane comes from Spain and has been faultless apart from a sticking sunroof that needed greasing.

Hi,

I'm also looking for some more insight about this issue. I was informed that the station wagon can come from Palencia, Spain or from Turkey. Nevertheless, the person also informed me that the only way to know a Megane's origin is by checking some sort of papers that come with at the time of delivery. I find this information somehow misleading, as I seriously doubt that the Renault's information system doesn't have this information available.
I suppose that with some good will and some good contacts at Renault it can be possible to check a vehicle's origin by its VIN. I'll keep on trying to get some more info.

Best regards,
Norberto

The Megane 2 Sport Tourer/Estate/Station Wagon/Break (whatever the name) is produced only in Spain, at Palencia. Check the main renault website. You can start here: http://www.renault.com/gb/produits/break2.htm - bottom of info. Check the other models as well by clicking on the left menu.
