I've got Xenon headlights !!

Postby jonburton » Wed Dec 28, 2005 11:12 pm

Hi everyone!

Finally had my Xenon HID headlight kit delivered. Took me about 4 hours to fit it today as it was a little bit fiddly as I had to change the bulbs and also find somewhere to mount the ballasts. My knuckles are bleeding

Incidentally, I didn't remove the bumper, headlights or even a wheel to change the bulbs.... I just used the access panels in the wheel arch and removed some of the trim under the bonnet to allow access. I guess I've got small hands

Anyway, kit was a Pilot 6000k H7 kit from https://www.hids4u.co.uk and it works beautifully. You need to experience it to know how much better everything is lit up. The light is crystal white with a hint of blue.

Here are some photos!

Now I see why people say go for xenons. Are they just bright or do they dazzle?

They definetely don't dazzle. The light is angled in exactly the same way as the original halogens but it is much, much whiter and clearer and more powerful. At night, the difference is unbelievable.

The photo's I took don't do them justice.

it does indeed look amazing. my mates A3 has HIDS and u can see the difference immediately.

they won't dazzle or blind people (or rather they shouldn't) as they have a ballast to keep it equal.

The kit is cheaper than the PIAA one, and also fits into the headlamp opposed to the fog light area that LGC has suggested with the PIAA kit...

Now all you need is some Xenon PIAA bulbs for the foglamps or the PIAA HID driving lamps that fit in place of the standard and IMHO pretty useless fogs. A Xenon dip will make the fogs more or less redundant anyway - I am assuming that the kit is with Bi-Xenons BTW!

The HID driving lamps will more than double the "view" range.

i used my fogs on a country lane to get to my gf's... they are pretty useless.
Main's are alright.. but could do with better range.

My kit isn't bi-xenon. The mainbeam is still halogen. Although I could feasibly upgrade the whole lot to include HID main beam and fog lights from the same company.

Not sure if it's that worth it though as night time country lane driving has been vastly improved just with upgrading the dipped beam.

Yes it's probably cheaper to dump the fogs and replace them with the PIAA pod HID driving lamp units! The mains should then be fantastic!

Lights looke excellent but would they be legal in this country?

Somebody told me that to have xenons you must have a headlight wash system and automatic headlamp levelling by law. Not sure if its true or not.

Just wonder when the car finally gets to an MOT whether it would fail on the headlights ?
