Steering Lock Removal

Postby Grizzly Bear » Sun Mar 03, 2013 10:33 am

Hi guys,

I'm mid way through changing the Electric Power Steering on the Sister-in-Laws car and I've hit a stumbling block. I know the steering lock has to be taken from the old column and fitted to the new but I can't for the life of me get the thing of without damaging it. The column is completely removed from the car now, I know it's a left handed thread so I've slackened it off but the screw won't wiggle out to release the lock. I don't think the lock is engaged because the shaft still turns.

I could really do with finishing this off today so any help/advice will be massively appreciated!

Thanks,

Rich

It needs to be unlocked electronically first. Without this the bolt will not come out , it is a tamper-proof design. Bad luck...
The whole sequence of removing the steering column is described in the manual, which makes sense to read first. The manuals are in the sticky thread above this thread.

Rookie error!

Never mind it's all sorted now, I had to plug the column back in, reconnect the battery and start the car for the lock to release. Once released I simply pulled the plug out, turned the car off and disconnected the battery again. The good news is the cars back together and the power steering is working again :)
