How acurate is the onboard computer? Since picking up my GT DCi, the computer is saying i have averaged around 44mpg with a mixture of town and motorway driving. When i have calculated it from how many miles i have done and how much fuel i have put in though, its more like 50 mpg.

Listen to George Osborne's budget tomorrow (Wednesday).

For all the talk of motoring costing more, compare the fuel efficiency of 1970s - 1980s cars and the fuel economy. therein. Some pundits work out that that fuel costs are actually cheaper per mile than those of yesteryear....

The jury is out.... - though it's still bloody expensive....

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Depends on whether you use the only one in the UK that charges!

Average consumption is 56.5 mpg on my trip, normal commute is 7 miles, with 30,40,50,60, and 70mph speed limits all on the route! Plus lots of town driving.
Best consumption was a run to Liverpool, got 62.7 mpg from the trip
Worst consumption was 38.7 mpg, first run after fixing it, with clogged EGR and a little hard driving just to asses it's health.

All that on a bog standard 1.5 dCi 80 :-)

Drove brother to heathrow this evening. There and back a tad over 125 miles. Overall average from start to finish was 76.3 mpg. Now I know that cant be rights, as it's better than the extra urban figure quoted! I wasn't rushing, but surely something is wrong? I'm not complaining if I am getting that though :). Also it's a 57 plate 106 hp 1.5dci.

Also to note. I usually am getting high 30s around town...

2004 Megane Tourer 1.5dci

Average is 58.5mpg, it's 59.5 at the moment. Drops to 56.xx only if I'm putting my foot down.

Excellent car. Just need to sort the niggles out.

1.9DCI 250 miles per week - never get more then 40 mpg avg - 10 miles to work by motorway and 5 miles by A road - If I reset it on the motorway I can get around 55mpg at 70mph.
Seems to be a bit rubbish around time, if thats the overall average.

Hi all,

my Megane is automatic gear box (AL4), and I get only 12.5 kpl (~30MPG) even on 100% high way drive.

The Computer check in the shop didn't show any problem so does the pollution check (EGR).

some people I've spoken with have 42 mpg or 18 kpl for the same model.

what could be the problem?

Thanks

I would have thought so yes even my megane 1 , 1996 1.4 , 75 bhp petrol does that. I have yet to pick up my megane 2 and I am getting a petrol. I was getting a 1.4 then a diesel1.5 now a 1.6 petrol. The first 2 did not meet the dealers high standards.

I would of thought on the higher way automatic would not make a great deal of difference as the over direct drive or what ever its called gearing would be similar in top. So If the torque conveter locks out in top then highway should be similar but that is a lot of suposing. It does look very low compared to the figures published.
