Check door locks message help!!!!

Postby lholland421 » Tue Mar 06, 2012 8:38 pm

Hi I have a 57 plate megane 2 and I unlocked the car today by the key card and it unlocked apart from seconds later I herd one of the locks click again but all the doors were able to be opened.

After I few tests I have got it down to the child lock control on the drivers door no longer has a red light on it and the back left door child lock doesn't work. Any ideas on how I could fix this???

Is it expensive?

Could it be a fuse?

Any hell would be very greatfull

I would get it on Fault Code Reader / ECU Diagnostic Equipment and see what it springs up with?

I dont think theres anyone on the club with one, might have to google and see who is local, quick fit do it for about £30, Renault will prob charge £50+..

I've got a CLIP computer should you wish to use it. But it's probably better to prise out the driver's side master button console and inspect it. Also, take a look at the lock in question. For a while, every time I unlocked my car the boot would open. The solution to this was to lubricate it. It would seem to be intolerant of stiff operation!

Hi thanks for that. i have been checking around and it seems that i just cant open the back right door from the inside as if the child lock is always on :/

i shall take a look at the master switch later on today, i also though maybe a reset by removing the battery?

thanks

I don't believe that a battery reset will help, but I suppose it's worth a try. Remember the window reset technique and be sure you have the radio code handy.

If memory serves, there is a manual override for the child locks involving a 'Phillips' style screw on the door shut. Might be wise to check that too.

I have exactly the same problem with the child lock as the OP. Child lock button on drivers door works for rear o/s door but n/s won't release the child lock. The little red light on the switch also stopped working too.

My car's been like this for months now but would be nice to find a fix for it.

Hi

I had the exact same issue as original post. Fixed the issue by getting a replace door lock from breakers and replacing the faulty one, cost me 15 quid plus 2 hours of my time to fit it. Though I let people know as I could not find a solution online.

Best of luck

Cheers

I had the check door locks message after not driving my car for a few days. Stayed on for about a week then went away all by itself. Shortly before I think I might have put too much oil on the locks and some of it got into the micro switches . Blast of electrical contact cleaner might help. :conf

For anyone else who has it, I think I found a fix. I had taken my battery off the car to use for a camping trip. When I got back I opened the car using the key in the passenger door, when I put the battery back on I had the message check door locks! Could not figure out how to remove message....

The fix: I had the engine running with message displayed on screen, I then opened all the doors including the boot, went back to the driver's seat and pressed the rear door lock button on the drivers door... Message disappeared :rock

P.s before doing the above procedure, I locked the car with the passenger side key to make sure the lock was in the correct position (I did think that was the problem at first but that didn't remove the message).
