Megane GT 2.0DCi 4year / 42k service.....

Postby seanog5 » Sun Nov 27, 2011 9:39 pm

Hi Guys,

i got my car from Arnold Clark (it was cheap!) i took out a 2 year plan and its just had its final inclusive service with them.

it has done 42k and it 4 years old (last week)

so they did the service and they called to say, for the age its *recommended* to change the fluids, coolant, brake etc and the pollen filter.

i have a couple of questions:

1. what does a 4 year service entail? shoud it have had the fluid change as part of the service and not just recommended?
2. £105 to change the fluids? really????
3. £45 to supply and fit the pollen filter

have i been had?

(i havent had the fluids done nor the pollen filter, yet)

any advice would be ace

regards

Sean

a dealer service is more about checking things rather than replacing things.

A lot of garages do this during the courtesy call to say that your car is ready BUT it could do with extra work. 95% of the time it's crap and they just want the money.
I was told i needed new brake pads, when the month prior i just put new greenstuffs in. (brake pads is a very common thing the dealers will want to replace)

The pollen filter is around 25 pounds (price from a dealer/oem part) and you can fit it yourself within a few minutes. not worth the 45 quid quoted.

as for fluids:
at 4 years, i'd definitely get brake fluid replaced. you can go to an independant to do this for around 30 quid.
oil you should change annually anyway and should have been done as part of service i'd thought - depends on what your service intervals are i think depends what the dealers will change/replace.
coolant - optional but not really needed since you'll do this at 5 year service when you change the cambelt.

thanks for the reply ray.

i hope that they did change the oil and filter!

will get the pollen filter myself and get the brake fluid done too.

will leave off the coolant until 5 years old and do it with the cambelt then :)
