Hand Brake problem

Postby anglo » Tue Oct 11, 2011 9:13 am

hi, sorry about spelling mistakes, that's not my langauge.
megane II hatchback 2004 automatic 1.6L
---------------------------------------------------
the mechanizm in the head of the handbrake handle was broke. some plastik pieces broke, a screw is free.
i opened the head of the handle and saw it after i could'nt free the brake by pushing the button. i broke the broken parts so i can free the brake and drive on....
==================================
now, nobody today is fixing/repairing parts as in thr past....everyone is just replacing parts.
in this case the RENAULT autorized garage want 1400NIS for a brand new original handbrake assembly + 200NIS for work + 20% tax = 1800NIS.
another garage wants 850NIS for used handbrake assembly (including work and tax).
3.7NIS=1USD

i'm not going to pay neiter of them.
my handbrake stops the car when i'm holding it up. i put a wooden box under it and it's functioning.
what i'm looking for is a tiny little lifting jack that can replace the wooden box, and can be easily operated.
you know the size i'm talking about.
any ideas ?
Thank you

This has been discussed many times. Alexb provided details to repair it.

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

So typical of the replies on here, someone fixed it already, there's a thread somewhere, do a search using the worst forum search known to man, jeez you regulars never heard of bookmarking. Become a real miserable forum of late.

thanks but that's not an answer to the question.
mind you i have not asked how to fix or repair the handbrake.
i've read all the stuff here and elsewhere about that issue, and diceded to improvized something else.
that was the question = about the improvization.
and THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DISCUSSED HERE.

in my opinion you can place a cat, a dog, sleep over on the car securing the hand brake lever, attach a rope to it and stuck it in the the door, you can glue it, you can make a hole on it and put a pin to lock it, you can put a shoe, you can put there a all bunch of papers, you can put rocks or whatever under the wheels to get the car stuck, you can put the car in a flat surface and engage 1st gear or reverse...

the list can goes on, its all improvisation. if you're interested in fix, which in my opinion you are no matter you say, follow davelowe advise and use Alexb repair instructions

PS.: If you can, you can also use an airplane to make that improvisation, put under the lever
PS2.: If you dont like our help you dont have to use it, not even see it or accept it, just use (or dont) other forums

Good luck
