Hi,
Got a 2.0 VVT auto, 55 plate last week, and after doing a lot of reading on here, I think I've got a dephaser fault, but not too sure, as not all the symptoms i've got match up completely.
So far the car has started and run fine every time I start from cold. Most of the time its starts and runs fine when warm, but on about 4 or 5 occasions it either coughs into life and runs about 400rpm until I blip the throttle, and then runs fine, other occasions it starts then stalls immediately.
Does this sound like the dephaser fault? What on earth is a dephaser, anyway? Do you think it should be fixed on the 6 month warranty a garage gives with a used car?
Many thanks!
Dephaser

Re: Dephaser
It should be investigated by the warranted garage (does the 2.0L have a dephaser - not sure). However, if you want to tinker with it yourself, try cleaning the throttle body first.

Re: Dephaser
Thanks Dave, Im guessing that as it's a VVT, it does have a dephaser. I've now got a basic understanding of what it is and how it works. I think that as I am not getting any abnormal noises from the engine, the dephaser pully itself is ok, I think the problem is electrical, ie it's operating when it shouldn't be, or vice versa. Anybody know what sensors are involved in the operation of the dephaser?
I gotta take the car back to the garage anyway next week for a new window regulator, so I'll see if they can get any fault codes from it. The garage is a Peugeot dealer, is the diagnostic equipment the same, or will it have to go to a Renault garage? The car's just about to tick over to 70,000 - so if I can get them to do the timing belt during the investigation / repair, that'll be a brucie bonus!
