Postby andywills » Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:39 pm

what price should I looking at for a 5 year service?

currently have a quote of £300 by an ex renault technician who has set up his own garage...is that the round-a-bout price?

also, what it involved in a 5 year service, i can get a friend who will change cam belt on a saturday morning cash job but obviously wont get the service book stamped

for £300 find out what's involved in the service.
it's a major service which from a dealer is around £800 inc cambelt change.

get the cambelt changed by your mate and get a service done (which gets it stamped).

The 5th year service is the cambelt and accessory belt replaced.. (5yrs or 72K) Plus the 72K service schedule, that includes Oil & Air filter..
If you had the 4th year service done last time then it should have included the Brake fluid and Coolant being replaced..

If it were me then £400 would cover the belts and service parts including a "stamp".. Water pump and coolant add £50.00

the 4th year service was done at the renault dealer when i bought it so they should have been done....

i take it most of the cost is labour?

was looking on fleabay and the timing belt kit including tensioners and cam plugs are £52 and the water pump is £15...

i would say i average about 50 miles a week if that, makes me wonder whether i should trade in for a clio or some other small car, but when i do take it out, you'll usually be looking at a minimum of 100 mile round trip...going london on 29th which is 3.5 hours (probably be there in 2.5-3)...

Well the new clio is very nice, I wish the Mrs would let me drive it more often.

Well looking at your 100 mile trip to London makes me feel our holiday drive to Finland of 3000 miles was rather far :D
