....it became unbearable. After 12 service visits and about 4000 euros spent (luckily most of it by my warranty company), I decided to call it quits as the latest event was a broken bearing on the left drive shaft. Repairing it would have cost me 800 euros, so this finally was it, because in may my warranty would have run out as well.
Megane went the day before yesterday and has been replaced by this:
The Opel (Vauxhall) Meriva has covered only 20000 miles, it is a 05 model with only one (hopefully) careful owner, not being sold by Arthur Daley....
Time will tell...

Hope all goes well with the new motor, i know quite a few people with Vauxhalls including my dad who has a Vectra SRI and none of them have had major problems.

Re: Dumped my Megane....
Yep, they also have had some kind of quality progress over the last few years. But , to be honest, I wasn't looking for an Opel specifically, it was more a case of buying a car off a specific dealer, who is a friend of our family. I had the choice between Mitsubishi and Opel and thus chose Opel as Mitsu does not have any useful Diesel cars available in that price range at the mo....
First 200 kilometres this weekend were fabulous....at last a car where I do not feel urged to listen for new sounds ands defects every minute....in the last few weeks this was the case with the Megane....

What do you mean?
Sold the car because I found it to risky.....after 18 months and 12 times in for repair and with the warranty running out in May I think I had no other choice....

Re: Dumped my Megane....
terry, i have had similar experience, except i only lasted 10 monts with around 10 to the garage and 4 callouts from the AA to see what was wrong with the car! part ex'd it for my lovely astra, also a 2005 reg car. the astra is finished well, is SXi trim. must admit though, i like the look of the meriva, but they could have made the interior/dash a bit nicer, for same age, the astra is lovely!

Re: Dumped my Megane....
Nice one...
I was in the market for an Astra as well, but decided against it. I wanted a station wagon , but they are much more expensive and, as Diesel, usually have quite high mileages...and when I saw the FlexSpace-Seats of the Meriva I quickly decided to go for that....
Only minor flaw up to now ist that the front axle makes loads of chunks and clunks when going over bad streets, which seems to be a common Meriva problem....I am in contact with my dealer at the mo to do sth about that.
I like the interior of the Meriva, my pics up there are quite disadvantageous.
I don't think it is that bad:

Re: Dumped my Megane....
i must admit, that is a very nice dash, i like the added option of the sat nav, suppose that is only on newer top of the range models.
i assume that when you mean you wanted a station wagon, a car just to run to and from the station in...? that is all i use the astra for. i drive to the station to catch a train into london, journey is 5 miles each way to station so 10 mile round trip each day. consumption is about the same as the megane on this run, but at weekends when i get the chance to drive to my girlfriends', on the motorway the consumption decreases quite alot. i can get around 350-400 miles from a tank where as i was lucky to get 300 from the megane. engine size is smaller, meg was 1.6, astra is 1.4 so obviously that helps out with a slight decrease in the consumption.
only down point to astra is that i was so used to having the on board computer (ave mph/ave mpg/ave speed etc.), this was not an option the original owner chose to go for on the astra from new, so all i have is a button on the dash with BC, but when pressed it simply comes up with "No Function". As yet, i have not had the chance to work out my mpg using a calculator online, when this tank of petrol is empty i will work it out!

Re: Dumped my Megane....
Just for the book, by station wagon I meant this:
At least here in Germany, these are far more asked for and thus more expensive.
