well im afraid to say that the deisel did have the edge,as i managed to get in front and hold it,and she said she just couldnt get past,but there isnt really a lot in it,other than the fact i was running at 58.6mpg and she managed 37.2 so you could say i won that quite easily!!!!!

I think I am going to leave my tittle of petrol head and become a diesel head.

In a car, 155 mph as the BMW was limited I loved that E38 with the V8 lump.
On a motorcycle, I saw 180 mph, but motorcycle speedometer readings were/are rather inaccurate. I remember reading an article on the Hayabusa and the tester had an indicated 216 mph, but the actual speed was 202 mph, so wildly inaccurate. Hence I saw 180 mph, and not claimed that is what I did.
I did get caught speeding back in 1989 on the M62 in a 1985 C plate 1.3 Fiesta. Speedo needle was at the end of the clock at 110 mph and the rozzers had me at 108 mph. I got three points and £60 for that. Nowadays that speed on a motorway is ban territory.

Renault Megane 2 1.6 16v - 215km/h (134/135mph) and hit the limiter
Mercedes Benz E300TD W210 - 230km/h (143/144mph) this is not the top speed, but got some trafic. Next time Merc will be with bigger turbo, new softwere, bigger intercoler, etc. etc. and i expect around 380 bhp
Opel Astra F C18XE+++ - i don't know, the speedo is only to 220km/h (140mph )

One car that I got off the clock, apart from my Mini Clubman, was my sister's 1.4 E reg Fiesta. Speedo only went to 110 mph and I had it well past that. Was actually chasing a 911 Turbo at the time, but wasn't having much luck. Neither was the 911 driver. The rozzers in their Senator nicked him. They passed me like I was stood still. I saw the blue lights and I thought that I was nicked. Lucky day that was for me.
Not the fastest car I've driven was my old Mini Clubman, but it would regularly go off the clock. It was running a 1275cc Cooper engine, bored out to 1.4 litre with twin carbs. Used to go chasing XR3is and the like in it. I wrote it off as slick tyres and wet twisty roads don't mix too well
