Re: Diesel vs Petrol
Diesel for me guy's & gal's
I like the fact that on the motorway you don't need to go fishing through the box for a lower gear, just simply flex the right foot.
Been a Diesel head all my life and would not have it any other way

Re: Diesel vs Petrol
An article in this months Fleet News magazine had this example printed about Petrol vs Diesel running costs
BMW 318i ES, Price £21,465 Economy 47mpg Price per litre 91.5
BMW 318d ES, Price £24,180 Economy 60mpg Price per litre 100.0
Extra cost of diesel model £2,715
Saving per 1,000 miles £12.74
Miles to break even 213,188
or if doing 12,000 miles a year it will take 18 years
Petrol really does look like a the wise choice doesn't it?

Yeah, can't see the 318d doing 60 mpg either, but its only an example.

Re: Diesel vs Petrol
I have always wondered how the 318d can do 0-62 in less than 10 seconds but have the capability of more than 60mpg

Re: Diesel vs Petrol
Price difference between petrol and Diesel has narrowed considerably over the last month or so (2-5ppl difference opposed too 9-12ppl last year) so running a petrol engined car has become more expensive.

Re: Diesel vs Petrol
petrols output more co2 though = more tax...
in the long term though, it probably isn't a huge amount...
for a comparison:
Megane RS F1 230, 5dr, 2.0T, 230bhp
12 months tax: £260
Megane RS 2.0dCi, 5dr, 2.0, 175bhp
12 months tax: £205
and something different:
Mazda 3 MPS, 5dr, 2.2T, 260bhp
12 months tax: £415

1 has today put unleaded up to 101.9p and left diesel at 99.9p happy days at least for now reading the papers it looks like it's going to shoot up in price again.
