oil help

Postby Rapidshed » Wed Feb 15, 2012 2:41 pm

right just doing an intrim budget service on my meg 1.9 dci 120

i've found loads of 5w40 engine oil 5 litres,

however it once go described to me that cheaper oil is actually recycled oils, where as the expensive stuff is new, how can this be allowed and surely they both should do the same job?

i'm not wanting to spend 50 quid on oil, but want good protection for 6k intervals.

I'm sure manufacturers would have to state quite clearly on the bottle whether the oil was recycled or not.

Any real synthetic 5W-40 or 0W-40 will do fine e.g. Mobil 1, Castrol Edge, Motul etc.

Some oils are recycled, but the chances are you will not purchase one if you stick to a reputable brand. They do not have to state if it is reclaimed oil but any oil company of any worth would not sell it as a premium product.

Cheers
