Hi all,

Something a bit different. Has anyone had experience with mobile broadband, you know those little dongles you plug into your laptop?

I am in Lancashire and the best bet so far seems to be pay as you go with 3 mobile. Anyone have experience with their broadband network?

Any help would be great.

Ta
Ant

I looked at these but decided against, seem alot of money for not a great deal of data limit.. I am
With bt broadband and therefor have access to bt openzone and other hotshots via wifi, I find in most cities I've visited there is pretty good coverage, I think you can check it online.. Defending worth looking into, the payband go thing would have cost around £25/50 a month for the data I use so saves alot!

depends on what 3G signals you have in your area.
I have an o2 data sim in a mifi device and it works fine if there's decent 3G signal

Yeah I checked the coverage for 3 and they claim it will work well indoors. The plan I'm looking at provides 3gb's of data over a 3 month period. Do you think this would be okay for general surfing ie. no streaming video, music downloads etc. :?:

3GB is plenty for ordinary surfing (checking emails, looking at standard web pages and so forth). It was standard on wired ADSL a few years ago (some deals still exist). EDIT - I see that you have 3GB per quarter meaning 1GB per month - it's still plenty.

You should be able to get free software to monitor the traffic levels anyhow.

Signal strength varies obviously, but I could get a steady 7.2Mb/s last time I tried on 3G. If you can only get GPRS (your phone settings ought to inform you of what protocol its using) it will be much less (more like dial-up).
