Servicing Interval Advice Requested

Postby Ianbanks » Tue Aug 16, 2011 11:50 am

Hi...Am new to the owners club and the forum (indeed, any online forum) so apologies if this is wrong or covered elsewhere: I am trying to get the best advice re recommended servicing intervals of my 4 y-o Megane Dynamique 1.5Dci that has now done 92,000 miles. Have been advised variously for the need for 12,000 mile and 18,000 mile service intervals.

Which should it be, and does the age of the car (i.e under 5 years but high milage like mine) have any bearing?

Also, whilst I am on when should the cam belt be changed in these services - 96,000 miles or sooner?

Cheers

Ian

Hi, service intervals are 12,000 miles or 12 months whichever comes soonest. Miles in your case. And belts should be changed at 5 years or 72,000 miles.

Hope that helps.

This is the page from my service book (2005) but I don't think anything changed service wise on phase 2, post 2006.

Hi,ive visited this site this morning to look for info on servicing and luckily spotted this thread :)

my newly purchased 1.5dci dyn was last serviced (according to the book) 9 months ago,its covered 12k since, because ive only just bought it im eager to make sure its got new oil and filter
now heres the dilema, because it was only serviced 9 months ago do i get another full garage service or do a manual service myself ?

If i do the service myself id be looking at changing oil filter
change oil (ive read on these forums to use either 5w40 or 0w40 but not sure which ?)
check and possibly change anti freeze
check tire pressures and tread depth
top up any low fluids

Is there anything ive missed that i can do myself on a sunday afternoon ? or should i bite the bullet and just get a full service from the local garage ?

Oil and oil filter should be changed. Oil with specification RN0710 should be used, unless your car is equipped with FAP/DPF (diesel particle filter), in which case you will need RN0720 oil spec. Change the air filter and cabin filter, too. The oil should be either 5w40 or 0w40 if car is not equipped wit DPF/FAP, or 5w30 if it is. Buy an original Renault oil filter, everything else can be bought elsewhere, including the washer for the drain plug.
How old is your car btw?

Cabin filter and mounting instructions are here:

Some good info there thanks direstraits,i will certainly take your advice !

Its a 2004,85k on the clock,i read about this FAP on here last night but i have no idea if my car has one fitted , how would i find this FAP ?

EDIT:

according to this message board FAP was introduced in 2005 and only in 1.9+ models, so i guess mine wont have FAP fitted ?

any thoughts on that cabin filter ? it doesnt actually say it fits a 1.5 hatchback but it fits a 1.5 saloon , surely it should fit both ?

It is the same, although I would go for a better one: MANN, Purflux, Fram... Those cheap ones are not letting enough air inside the cabin and get dirty very quickly.
