My car had just failed its MOT because my side lights were blue so I replaced them with some HID ice white 501's and they failed it again because they put off a very pale blue also
Bit bad when I have to pay £45 again to get an MOT when all it failed on was the colour of my sidelights
My rear springs needed replacing also on the first MOT so that was done for the 2nd one. Any other garage would have just had a quiet word telling me to make sure I replaced the sidelight bulbs but not this jobsworth

This is interesting (and also unfortunate). What instrument did they use to measure the colour? By eye?

He basically just took out the sidelight b and looked at it and said it was the wrong colour. They are supposed to be clamping down on the use of led bulbs as well.
I heard that MOT's next year they are going to be checking for stored faults so I bet they hike the cost of the MOT up as most backstreet garages charge a min of £25 for doing that, they are also going to check if a car has been remapped or has a tuning box this country has gone crazy if that happens crazy i tell you crazy
So anyway I have changed my 501 sidelight bulbs to the plain clear ones that put off a yellow light not a white light and booked it into a different MOT centre as the last one was just being an ass (will be changing them back as soon as the MOT's over)

A garage shouldn't charge you for a full mot each time first time they should thereafter is normaly £10-£15 or sometimes free as they should only check it on the thing it first failed on, especially as yours was just bulbs there is no reason they should have done or charged for a full retest...

Passed the MOT at last
Ist time i took it for MOT failed rear springs and wrong coloured sidelights
2nd MOT retest no charge but failed on wrong coloured sidelights again
3rd time I had to pay full price again but at least this time it passed
