Calling Fellow 1.9 DCI Owners (Turbo Sound)

Hi Guys,

I just took receipt of a 2003 Megane 1.9 DCI. The turbo makes a sound - that other diesel drivers don't recognise as the sound of the turbo (though it is the turbo).

I've read elsewhere that the DCI engine does have a peculiar sounding turbo - very high pitched (almost electronic sort of noise).

What are you experiences ? Is there anyone in Belfast who has one, I could come round and hear theirs (sounds odd !!)

I think I'll have to record the sound and put it on youtube to get some feedback on whether I should be worried or not.

It only makes the sound on acceleration (but only when the car is on the move, not when sitting idle out of gear). And its only after a the pedal is pushed slightly heavier then it could be....

Record the sound. I'll have a listen. Doesn't sound bad unless it's really screaming (at which point turn off and pick up the yellow pages).

My old 1.9 used to have a nice high pitched turbo sound. Kicked in at about 2000rpm, was only really noticeable on country roads with high hedges.

Hi my 1.9 130dci makes same sound been told nothing to worry about (sounds like a distant police siren?) my mate just fitted a new turbo to his seat leon (same sound on his also)
