One thing I did need to do before the MOT was to change the broken front foglight:
A note of caution. After a few hours of swearing because the darned bumper wouldn't budge I discovered two clips on the top of each headlight. Now the guide on the internet says to tug firmly on your bumper and they will release. Don't do this! You risk snapping these plastic connectors particuarly if the plastic has become brittle with age. Instead look inside the bonnet and just behind the headlights are two access holes. With a long screw driver you can press *Down* and with a small pull the bumper comes free, otherwise you risk some needless damage as these clips are capable of holding your bumper on by themselves!
Not bad for a 7 year old 61k car. Its advisories were:
Rear brake discs slightly worn.
Slight kink in O/S/F wheel on inner side (Anyone got a Nervastar 17" going?)
Slight play in both steering arm inner fixings. - The guy at the desk issuing the MOT couldn't explain this to me.Can anyone explain this to me a little better so I know where the fault actually is because this just seems vague to me.
Also I just did a 9000mile oil change on my 1.6 56 reg Grand Scenic and that oil filter is in a bloody akward place! I actually had to buy a £16 quid oil filter remover designed to be used with a ratchet in tight spaces and even that was a struggle. Can't see this 2.0 Megane being much easier.
Lastly when I got this car I checked the collant level which was almost none existant in the reservoir. After over 1 litre!!??!! of coolant later it topped up and after checking the engine bay there is no sign of a leak and as of this morning the level hasn't dropped again at all. As a sealed system is it even possible for that much coolant to evaporate over 7 years even with a full Renault service history? The only thing I can think of is what feels like a possible crack on the reservoir bottle at the top. I'm not 100% sure as it follows the line where the bottle is assembled at the factory. I'll post some pics tommorow for you peeps to compare
