Just seen an advert saying Renault to release a range of hybid cars next year. With all the electrical issues found on Meganes is it just me or does a electric hybrid made by Renault seem like a really bad idea. Know I wouldn't contemplate getting one as it'd probably never work

As a matter of fact, it is already in testing phase here in Denmark, and next year it will be available as a Megane Sedan/Saloon called Fluence. Danish car journalists have already tested it. I wait to get my hands on one for a test ride.

The car is fully electric with zero emission, has changeable batteries (changed in 10 minutes on tank stations), range of 160Km or 100 Miles and gets from 0 to 60 in approx. 8 secs. Lacks luggage space, though.

no it`s not a good idea...............................it`s still renault

they don`t do so well with 12 volts, never mind getting involved with possible 240 volts.

Should have made this a poll.
No, but I wait to be proved wrong.

They struggle with keyless locking so probably better if they got that right 1st!!
Must say though i keep thinking of hybrids/gas possibility on next car.
With the price of fuel going the way it is and me driving approx 26k a year the cheaper a car to run the more i make on expenses.

Dont forget this is a completly new tech from renault, well at least the charge system...
A 'Volt' currently takes 16 hours to charge. Delivering 200 to 50 miles depending on how driven.
The new Fluence will take 10mins to charge per 100 miles. Thats quite a differance.
No manufacture in the world has come close to this....

My favourite thing about my Renaults is the beefy engines.
A nice 2.0 VVT in the Mégane and the 3.0 dV6 in the Vel Satis.... I'm pretty sure these zero emmision food blender motors won't quite have the same punch.

An electric engine can and will pretty much beat any similar car to 0 - 60. There is so much torque from a electric motors and max tourqe is available through the whole rev range.
Although its 0-60 is only around 8 seconds. It will take much quicker cars off the line due to this.
