Renault Mégane II VS Mégane III

Postby nejkov » Sat Dec 26, 2009 6:22 pm

Silhouette of Renault Mégane II is not beaten by Mégane III.
Mégane III is a better vehicle, because of advanced technologies integrated; but Mégane II will stay eccentric stature on the road which says something about its owner. ;)

Happy vrm-vrm New Year.

both are french and will break. The II is more funky and cool, the III is too boring for me.

It is ashes to ashes route. :-) What did you expect?
I would not say Mégane III Coupé is boring; but still it is looking like desiring shaving mashine as many others. Just remember the time when Mégane II was revealed. What a radical roar it was. :banghead

My dad has a Megane III, there is no comparison to his old Megane II.

The new one is much better.

same, parents have a Megane III 1.5dCi 106 Dynamique. Looks very nice in my opinion, when parked next to my Megane II, it makes it look dated (obviously!)

A few things I've come to realise though:

- Front passenger door shuts correctly, but stands proud of other bodywork by about 5mm. VERY noticeable - almost looks like the door hasn't been shut properly. Hopefully just needs an adjustment but this isn't the point.

- Front door grab handles - they squeak when you pull them to close the door and do not feel sturdy at all. Even the Megane II ones feel 10 times better. One of the first impressions a person will get after getting into the car and closing the door.. is a poor quality grab handle. Are Renault really trying to improve quality?

- Even though the boot is bigger in the Megane III, every other storage compartment is smaller than the Megane II.... centre armrest, glovebox, underfloor storage, the storage areas in the door... all smaller. Front doors no longer have the lidded compartment, near the electric window switches. Dynamique trim also loses out on the rear centre armrest now.

- Even though it is a nice place to sit in and quality and fit & finish look nice and high, prod around - I fear a slippery slope downhill soon after ownership.. just like the Megane II. (Remember when you first got your Megane II, thought it was really well built and all, and now.... you realise it's very fragile? :D )

At the end of the day, I really like the Megane III and I would go as far as getting one myself, but I would get one because I like it and for it's desirability, not quality & reliability. Get a VW Golf Mark 6 for that!

Does the megane 3 have a button in stead of a proper handbreak?

I agree - for the minority of us that actually manage to keep the thing on the road, I think this might end up being a collectors piece in a few years (decades) time. In a rare diversion into style, I would say it defined a moment in marques. C/F Peuguot 207, Ford Focus, et al...

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

When I took a test drive I found it strange to go back to a standard style handbrake
Especially as it was on the passengers side of the car not the middle
Suppose it would have cost too much to swap it sides like the wheel the pedals ect
Apart from that nice but expensive in comparison to what i paid for my 2007 meg.

that's an option which is not available in the UK,as based on the renault's market research has shown people won't pay for that option.I would though :)

It would be interesting making a handbrake spin with one of those.
