Ok, some may have gathered that i moved recently, now finally found things like car registration docs so started to sort it all out, wifes done, mine Car tax due end of this month, So knowing that they state 'Car tax is due within 28 days take your registration document to the post office, fill in section 6' now this is a good option as the post office take your documents and send them for you (save on stamp)
so I walked into the post office on Saturday (3rd Oct, 28 days to end of month)

'cashier number 1 please'
me - morning have just changed address, car tax due 31 oct, can i........
her - bring your registration document in when you get your car tax, we will forward it then
me - thats why im here to get..........
her - yes bring in your documents when you get your car tax
me - yes i understand that, thats why im here, i have my documents and would like to get my car tax
her - you cant get it today
me- why not its within 28 days
her - you cant get it today
me - why?
her - we dont have any.
me - when will have some
her - dont know possibly Monday.
me - thankyou.

personally she could have just said at the start, 'sorry sir we do not have any of next months tax discs in yet, hopefully we will on Monday'

i always get the feeling that these postoffice workers look down their noses at you,

second class stamp please.......

close them.

Taxing car online has to be one of the great inventions of the last few years.

you can tax it online and i usally do so, however I have recently moved house and needed to change my address details op my log book, DVLA state that if you tax is due within next four weeks to purchase tax disc before sending in log book, which i support as you dont want to be in the position of having no tax and no log book.

Anywho the buying the disc from the PO saga went on, yesterday popped in with logbook (new address filled in) insurance certificate and a debit card.

CASHIER NUMBER 4 PLEASE

me- morning have changed address, car tax due end of this month, can i have tax my car please
(hands over log book, insurance certificate)
her- do you have tax on your car
me-yes
her- then you just need to send this off, you dont need to buy new car tax
me- The disc runs out 31 october, thats within 28 days
her- well this should be back
me- right the website via govuk states that if tax is due within 28 days to goto the postoffice, plus the communication workers have just voted to start strikes, i do not want to be in the position of having no car tax, no reminder and no log book when i can buy one today.
her- Ok (starts filling in paperwork) have you got your MOT certificate
Me- No
her- well you need a valid MOT
me- No i don't its less then 3 years old
her- oh yes 1997, would you like 12 or 6 months
me- I cant have 6 months, its band b
her- no you can
me- no its band B which is £35 a year
her- oh right, that will be £35 sir

you do have to wonder how many people get the wrong information from these people, still i now have a new circular piece of paper in my windscreen. and next year its back to online

post office: close them.
