Why don't people know how to spell Mégane?

Postby MéganeDynamique » Tue Jul 28, 2009 1:56 pm

This really gets me. Megan is the most common name used. Then there's Magane and I've even seen somebody advertise one as a Renault Migraine. I thought it was a joke and called up and the guy genuinely thought Renault had called it the Migraine.

It even annoys me when people don't put the é in Mégane. (Megane)

The car is French, the name is French therefore the é should always be in it!!

Sorry for the outburst it just really frustrates me.

Anyone else?

I think it's just you.

however on UK/US keyboards, there isn't an accented e character key nor is there an relatively easy way to do it... so most of us just don't bother.

For those that would like to start doing it, open up the character map and copy it from there or type ALT-0233 to produce the é.

Some times I can understand how someone can advertise it as the ' Renault Migrainé '. He must have tried to change head light bulb and thought 'feck that ill flog it instead'.

This is the last what concern me.
At least when in my language is common changing accented characters with unaccented chars on internet forums.
I.e.:
Příliš žluťoučký kůň úpěl ďábelské ódy.
Prilis zlutoucky kun upel dabelske ody.

In my language is another thing which is not differented in english: Megane is female name. So in my language it is (she) Megane, not (he) Megane. But often it is written as (he) Megane. Difference is i.e. in sentence: "My Megane is broken" ((he): "Muj Megane se rozbil" vs. (she): "Moje Megane se rozbila")
Probably because (he) Renault.
But Renault Thalia is commonly written as "she" :-).

English it have simpler about it. MeganeDynamique, don't make unnecessary complications :-).
