100k she made it!!

Postby nickbell69 » Mon Jul 20, 2009 7:29 pm

Well she finally got there.
Image

100 k on the clock and still going strong!!
for all those with new Meganes they can be reliable.
53 reg 1.9 DCI priveleg.
Problems i've had very few.
Door sensor fixed under warranty.
Exhaust snapped week i got it fixed under warranty, surprisingly same one is still going strong!!
Drivers window motor.
Serviced till 72k when cambelt and water pump were replaced. Since then i've serviced it myself.
Tyres 3rd set are being fitted on front on Wednesday. Set being replaced have done 50k (cheapest of cheap millenium set).
Rear tyres still on 2nd set and got over 3mm on both.
Brakes and pads i believe are still original(i can't believe that) but i keep all receipts for parts etc and have no record of these, plus thats something i would do myself and don't recall ever changing them.
New set of glow plugs and 1 new battery last year.
Oh and 3 passenger headlight bulbs!(makes up for all time i don't spend under her)
I think thats it, she's passed every MOT, although came close to a fail once on the horn not loud enough, luckily mechanic fixed it with some impact engineering ;)
Does 48 mpg constantly in warmer weather even with my heavy foot every so often.
So for all those with doubts after buying a Megane they can be reliable.
Getting twitchy for a new car but only because i want a change not because of anything wrong, i'll see how long she lasts starting to get fond of the old girl :)

Good going Nick.

Out of interest, when do you change the oil on yours and... come on.... what you thinking of getting to replace it, if you do?

Change the oil every 18k, a lot of people probably just took a sharp intake of breath as 9k seems to be done by alot of people but 18 has been ok with me.

As for new car i've looked at new Civic 2.2 diesel (like the looks but fuel economy jumps out on that).
Like the new Seat Leon but must admit only from the advert not seen one close and inside yet.
Also Skoda Octavia vrs.
Lots to consider though boot space being the main thing as my car is my office, also have a dog and get fed up of it on back seats. Plus golf clubs so it should be an estate as wife keeps telling me but somehow estates don't do it for me.

Then my sensible head switches on(must happen when approaching the big four zero) and says stick with the Meggy she's efficient, reasonably quick and reliable :-)

Always happy to help rjacko. In Chester quite a bit as out laws are in Mickle Trafford.

Manor garage on Lightfoot street i'd recommend as well, had most of my services done there until i started doing them myself.

Wow, what a great pic!

I was at a car auction the other day and a nice Mégane caught my eye. Had a look at the dashboard and saw a massive 173,000 miles! I'm sure yours will have no trouble reaching that.

I'm fast approaching that dreaded cambelt change, I'm at 65,000 miles. Just wondering, how much did you pay for your 72k mile service?

Away at the moment but off the top of my head i think it was about £400 for service and cambelt and water pump replaced.
I have seen a lot of people getting better prices than that though on here. Ring around as many as you can though, avoid a dealer as well (expensive). Good advice to get water pump done at same time as cambelt too for a little extra will save a fortune if it goes later on.

PS 103k now so 175 shouldn't be too long
