Rain Sensing Wipers

Postby LiamG » Fri Jul 17, 2009 5:00 pm

Im new to the whole Megane world so forgive me for this simple question

On the rain sensing wipers there are 4 settings, 1-4 in what look like drops on the wiper stalk. What is the difference between each because i really cant tell?

Liam ;)

Im not sure if all models have sensing wipers, but if it rains hard they go really quick so they do work.

i was wondering this.. depending on how much it is raining, and how fast you are going, the wipers change speed? mine do, and it's really annoying! if you are travelling at 70 mph, and it's raining quite a bit, they go nuts!
what are the differencials between the settings? do they go so fast travelling from 0 - 30mph say, and then get faster between 31mph - 40mph? i can't tell when mine are changing, they just seem to go faster and slower as they please!

I didn't think speed had any effect on them. Thought it was just the amount of water on the sensor. I think the only reason they'll speed up when going faster is something to do with the rain hitting the screen at higher speed fooling the sensors into thinking it's raining more.
Only thing i don't like is when in heavy rain overtaking HGV's on motorways through lots of spray the auto setting takes a second to react so you're blinded by water for that second. Slightly un-nerving that!

It's the sensitivity. If you set it on one rain drop you'll notice that they don't wipe until theres plenty of rain on the screen. However, at 4, they will wipe as soon as rain lands on the sensor. Mine is at 3.

Re Automatic headlights...mine are a bit unpredictable. They come on under trees and in petrol stations etc as normal. And in the summer, I'm usually the first person with my lights on as they seem to detect the sun setting...I like this! However...sometimes it'll be a really dull day, lashing rain and because they still sense a bit of light they don't come on!
