But both start fine, drive great in straight lines and, and i have to admit im amazed but they go round corners as well, the seats reach my arse and back and put me behind the wheel, the handbrake stops it from rolling down hills, the plastic is not falling apart like a tower of klix coffee cups and the key fobs well there are three buttons, doors open, doors lock, and unlock boot, even me an inbred renault megane driving ex southerner now living in suffolk has managed to remember which button does what without, and wait for it, without even having to look at the button.

so your choices are clear, leave your job for a company that has a policy to look after its pool cars, or a company that uses a lease company with a higher mileage allowance or put up with the fact that you are driving a pool motor which has been ill treated by both company and drivers alike. or just have a big bag of shut the hell up

back well up...........

Er NO i will not "shut the hell up" and you drive two much newer versions of the Megan so i suspect your problems are yet to come how are they??
And if you only do a couple of miles a day and have no real interest in cars ie buying two the same then im sure that a car that drives straight and stops ect would be just great, all im saying is that many other cars do it better and cheaper!!

Mate, Both cars are fine, thanks for asking apart from someone driving into the front of mine which wrote his off (ok it was a citroen saxo) and left me with a new bumper neither has had a major problem, the wifes needed a new ignition coil which is down to the coil not the car.
we had the wifes car a few years before i changed mine to 'a rattle can' as you eloquently describe them, the reason: i was driving a weekly 650 mile round trip and found a car that was comfortable and extremely economic in the 1,5 dci,
so in summery I have two of the same model with differing motors to suit the purpose they were purchased for which were settled on following many test drives of new cars in the same market, the 1.4 16v does the missus proud round town and when taken on longer journeys (and yes it was taken up north a few times) did just aswell apart from the economy - but to stack a 1.4 petrol against the dcis mpg is not a fair comparison. the dci is for its size extremely competent, drives so well that i manage a 5 hour trek up the a1 without having to stop to restraighten the back plus with its mpg and range i can turn round at the end of journey and return without stopping at a fuel station, factor in the £35 a year car tax cost and i believe im on a winner.
If as you say you did not want to get peoples back up then maybe you should the learn the meaning of positive criticism, constructive comments/statements are always well received sweeping statements boiling down to 'ha ha losers you drive french tat' are not

Just wanna add that I've redefined the term fast food in my McGee: driving on German autobahn 120 mph while eating a sandwich.

reckon renault save cash by using same seats they would fit for a left hand drive, so for them the lumber control is on side by door..
for the rattle box, try adding a five marbles, 15pence in loose change, a matchbox car and a tube of smarties, shake rattle and roll...

Hehe, yeah he is right about the lumbar control.

The company I used to work for had a pair of W-reg Vectras as pool cars, I used to love going places in them, I wasn't as harsh as some other employees when driving them, but basically they were given death everytime someone jumped in them.

A colleague of mine was so pissed off with the company, that when we went somewhere one icy morning with him driving, started the engine straight from cold, and then bounced it off the rev limiter in 1st gear all the way up the road, I couldn't help but laugh. They were driven like this day in day out.

They both did about 150K before the water pumps failed within a few weeks of each other strangely enough. It's surprising how much abuse a car can take.

As Clarkson always says, any car is better than walking, so that's one positive at least.

I'm happy with my 225 though, never been a fan of VAG cars.

Just adding that I love my 1.5DCi Sports Tourer. Its been a great car for me and my lifestyle so apart from one very small niggle, I've no complaints.
I suppose I should add that I've had many company cars before and quite a few of my own (at good specs) and I can honestly say that I like this Megane best of all.
I love the economy; just returned from Fort William down the A82 and averaged 73.3 mpg at a reasonable pace (not holding anyone up but not breaking any speed limits either). That may make me boring, but I did hammer it on the way up and got 49.9 mpg and I'm still happy with that (and no points).
It pulls my boat fine, carries my dog and loads of stuff in the boot and back seats and performs pretty well for a mid sized engine regardless of its load. Handling is ok for an estate and I find it comfy even with a bad back.
If someone who has only had the use of a car for a short time chooses to launch a rant about a car that he doesn't like on an owners club forum, then I'm sure that tells us more about the sort of person he is rather than about the quality of the car he's driving.
