Towing a Megane

Postby Vacationer » Sat May 08, 2010 12:12 pm

Hi All
I have purchased a Renault Megane CC and would like to tow it behind my motor home on an A Frame, how do you disengage the steering lock as there is no actual key to put in the steering column.
Many thanks

You put the card into the reader and hold the start/stop button for about 5 seconds without pressing the clutch/brake pedal.

Anthony,

I agree - this switches on the ignition and unlocks the steering. Out of interest, if you leave the card in, does this situation persist indefinitely? For example, the radio and interior lights will switch off after 20 minutes or so. Is it the same with the steering lock? If so, what about battery drain?

Just wondering..

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

Hmmmm :? good point Dave. I have no idea whether it would completely shut down. I can't see why it would really, it should give you all the function of a key igntion, whether Renault thought diferently is for them to know and us to find out I guess.

Obviously the steering locking mid-tow would be a very dangerous situation. So I suggest you go and ask your local Renault dealer.

As for battery drain I'm sure it wouldn't be great, however the ignition surely has to be on for the power steering to function as it is an electronic system. :conf

Many thanks Lads for the quick response.
I think I will have a chat with AA/RAC. I spoke to the Local Renault Dealer I was not convinced with his reply although he did say it could flatten the battery
Thanks Again
