Handbrake difficult to release

Just a quicke,

It may be irresponsible but when temptation gets the better of me during cornering and i resort to tugging the handbrake on my 56 plate 1.6 Dynamique, the majority of the time the handbrake locks even though i hold the button in and i have to be at a standstill to release it.

Any ideas why this may be???

If its a throttle style one, the button/mechanism in the handle is probably on its way out. There are lots of threads on this.
