MOT failure rates

The worst cars for failing MOTs were the Ford transit van, closely followed by... the Megane..

There was some comments on this at Autocar. The figures are for 20,000 MOTs of a particular model, and there are plenty of models with under 20,000 examples that had an MOT in 2007 and did worse than the Megane.

When my own Megane had its first MOT last year it would have failed before the track arm was replaced under warranty (suspension faults being a very common failure for MOTs), so I can only presume it would count as a failure.

anyone seen the data from VOSA regarding MOT failures rates for MOT's done in 2007.
The BBC has forced VOSA to publish under the Freedom of Information.
It just goes to confirm what most people think about the Megane's build and component quality with youve guessed it...... the Megane has the highest MOT failure rate of any car - with over 28% fail MOT !!!

If you look at the details of the failure rates, the majority of failures seem to be down to items that are consumable. ie Tyres, brakes, lights, and 'Drivers view of the road' - anyone for chips with their windscreen, or perhaps those with after market tinted glass might like to think more carefully about the percentage of tint.

i think it just goes to show that 3 years before a new car requires a MOT is way too long.
