Fuel consumption help...

Hi,

I recently bought a 2004 Megane 1.4 and managed to drive to 256 miles from Teesside to London on £30 petrol.

I have driven local mileage to work in back today and yesterday, roughly 22 miles (that's the sum total mileage) and have used just under a quarter of a tank. Is this a common fault that someone can help me with?

I know more fuel is used with town driving (changing gear, starting and stopping etc) but that seems excessive. I recently had an issue with one of the coils popping and am fearing that this is a part of that problem.

I get around 37 mpg when my average speed is around 25mph or 34mpg when my average speed is around 19mph. The best I have had is 40.5mpg on a long run at around 47mph.
During the icy weather, fuel consumption is down due to idling on the drive for 5 minutes waiting for the heater to clear the windscreen. Using the air con hammers fuel consumption too.

i to have a megane 03 1.4i 16v. there is a few mods such as induction kit plus powerflow exhaust. i get around 29mpg. when goin a bit harder aye get around 22mpg...very sore on the juice
