Front disc and pad replacement

Postby supersib » Sat Feb 28, 2009 7:06 pm

Have just had two new front tyres and discovered that the pads and discs are shot. Can anyone shed and light on how to do change these? Ebay are over £100 cheaper than ATS if I self fit so want save that 100 quid for better things!
thanks all!

To be honest it's quite an easy job and like you say it'll save you alot of money, and satisfaction of having done it yourself.
Sure someone will be along to give full step by step instructions.
Do you have a Haynes manual?
You'll find 2nd side will be done in fraction of time to the 1st once you know exact process.

It is simple. My advice is to get EBC GreenStuff pads, OEM or EBC discs, check the caliper for sticking/rust, bleed the fluid while pushing the pistons in and avoid using any hose pinch tools (they may damage the stiff hose). Don't forget the threadlock (Loctite 243 or the OEM), a good wire brush and a torqure wrench (torque values are listed in the manual and usually ignored by garages).

The manual is here. The English version also exists and can be found as a part of Dialogys system (CDs sold on ebay or files found in p2p networks or usenet)

Ill vouch for EBC G brakes and their Disk, Even I notice quite a differance in the stopping distance.

What is the % in breaking between front and rear? is it 70/30?
