Gear Knob 6 speed Megane 03 plate

Postby Paul_uk74 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 12:53 pm

Hi all

I have a Megane 03 plate and would like to replace my existing gear knob as the numbers are smudged / rubbed out by my missus.

Is this easy to accomplise myself? I have tried to pull the one off but its not budging.

Any help or info appreciated.

Yes it's quite easy.

Firstly you need to buy your new knob (not cheap from Renault) :-(
Then you need to give your knob a really good pull and it should come off. (Ooo err missues)
It's only a friction fit but a very tight friction fit
Just be careful not to smack yourself in the face :fish

Ooh you are awful IainMW but I do like you (do you remember Dick Emery?) I thought that this question would prove provocative.
I'm laughing out loud here. :lool:

HAHAHA. Thanks for the reply IainMW.

I am finished having a giggle at the response.

I got a price for the knob and it was over £40 from renault so I have been looking on ebay for an alternative but dont know what one to get.

Would something like this fit?

I do need to consider the "Pull up" up for reverse.

Do you have to pull your knob up for reverse?

I think the ebay link I added is the right kind but still not 100%. I will ask the seller.

Paul.

I think you should just leave your knob alone. You'll go blind playing with it thats what i was told as a kid!!!

I would love to but its not shiny anymore and its smudged.

I would like to replace it with an original but not at the retail price. I have called a few car scrap dealers and asked them to contact me if they get one in so I can take the knob. :)

I assume that hand cream or something similar is responsible for the numbers being worn off the gear knob. My advice is to make sure you have clean hands before you touch your knob!
