I fitted a triple tone horn to my car, but decided not to fit the resister alonge with it, so after about a month of useing the extra loud horn, 'aparently i could be herd from the other side of Bangor NI' the car fuse blew, so just replaced it and it works fine again, all i do is replace the fuse, works wonders, i fitted the horns to the bottom of the bumper so they didnt slide about and so they dont get wet when using a power hose

No not at all mate. It was easy in the end when I figured it out. All you need to do is carefully remove the left hand front grill the one beside the badge in the middle. You can then work on the wireing and enough space to get your hands in and fit in place the horns.

Can confirm that, done mine this morning. Will never believe what the manuals say again, bumper off my a**e.

I found it easier to remove both upper grills so able to get both hands in, a couple off thin wide blades, I used 1 1/2" wide filler knives, and you can lift the grills out from bottom first. Apply a bit of masking tape to the paintwork above and below first in case you slip up.
Cheers,

:-) My horn works like new now. Thanks for the advice.

Had a simliar experiance today. Needed a woman to move at a Green light so gave her a quick beep and she didnt even here me.

Therefore im after a new horn. Looked at the Ebay dual tone horns. This may not make sense but i want it to sound like a Car horn rather than an Air Horn do you know if these sound ok?

And if not does anyone know any alternatives.

Thanks.

I would suggest the Stebel Nautilus

http://www.stebel.it/stebel/index2009.htm

They are a compact twin horn design made in italy.

Have a great sound and are reated at 115DB at 3 meters.

I have had one for about 3 months and from experiance they do the perfect job of getting folk out of the way.

It was about £20 form the bay.

i know this is an old thread but im currently looking at a stebel nautilus on ebay.

Just wandering:
1. ulrich how is the horn going?
2. did it fit in the same place as the standard horn?
3. did you do anything with wiring? the nautilus says it needs 20amp wiring??
4. had any problems like poddy with fuses blowing?

thanks

Also anyone had problems passing MOT's with the louder horns?

MOT regs state the horn can be rejected if "a sound emitted by the horn is- not a constant note- not continuous or uniform- harsh or grating"
Obviosuly i want my horn to be very harsh lol

also nickbell69, it seems he was doin you a favour. It can be rejected if "the sound emitted by the horn is not loud enough to be heard by another roaduser"

Had it a few months now and not a problem,

It was a direct fit. I just striped the existing cable and soldered it to the points and has work fine.(Make sure you get the cables the correct way round.) It came with a relay ect but i couldn't have been bothered with that so binned it!

Its a bumper off job. Wont fit through the grill.

Its loud and is a great replacment. The next step up would require a compressor etc to be any louder IMO.

So its not just my horn that is embarrasing! Glad to know. I might get 4 or 5 of these air horns just to make a point hehe

Ive just got the dealers to replace mine, waiting for it to come in. Will i have the same problem with the standard replacement horn?

yea,the sandard horn is rated at only 60DB. I dont think that would wake me up from a sleep never mind get someone out of my way. An aftermarket one is the way to go.
