Megane II 1.6 manual response and acceleration
Dear all,
i own megane II hatchback 1.6 manual 2004. i drove many 1.6 engine cars such as seat leon, peugeot, fiat petra, golf 5 ... etc. The point is that i feel that megane II 1.6 engine is the weakest; in terms of response (specially 2nd gear response) and acceleration.
does any one agree with me? if yes, if there is any solution?
thanks,

my last car was a fiat stilo 1.6 16v, which felt much more powerful and faster.it was however crap. the megane is much smoother in acceleration and miles better in every other way, although i do miss the power! does anyone know what the official bhp is for a 1.6 vvt meg? it should really be more than the fiats 100hp as it is 'vvt'. i am mindful however that lots of people on this forum have issues with coils, where a lack of power has been a symptom, but on the other hand if something was wrong i think warning lights would come on and it really would be obvious!

i own this car since 3.5 years, it is quite good. however, the problem that iam feeling that it really lacks quick response and fast acceleration...
i am not satisfied with the car's acceleration when kicking down,
u will feel that ESPECIALLY when u accelerate from 0-100km, the 2nd gear is the worst!!

- by the way: 115 is the gross bhp and 111 is the actual net bhp.
- what is the maximum speed u got?? i went to 225-227km, and that after long long time (the engine sounded very strange)

- is there any solution to this issue... like any kit, plugs, chips?!

I reckon it was well worth it.
Power is more evenly distributed, it doesn't just fly through the lower end of the rev band. More noticeable torque increase.
Also fuel economy is ALOT better, I'm constantly hitting 7.3L/100km even when I drive really hard.
Other mods I have done are the panel filter and iridium spark plugs which help with the responsiveness of the car.

You could spend a fortune tuning your 1.6.... remap, exhaust, filter etc and in return get very little gain maybe 5-10bhp, for the kind of time & money you might have to spend its probably worth trading it in for a 2.0 vvt for an instant 25bhp or even one of the dci models
DARK MET BLUE DCI 120 + DTUK TUNING BOX & K&N Air Filter.
Well that's all the mods I am going to do, any more and it's not going to be worth it financially.
Saving up for a R26 now.
Hence I don't bother with making my 1.6L looking like a 225 or a ricer.
At the time when I bought my car they didn't have a special on the 2.0L.
Mine was a limited edition with the panoramic sunroof, you normally can't get a panoramic sunroof on 1.6L models, only 2.0L variants.
This is also my first car as I'm only 19.

i didn't change anything in my car, except that i've bought these SplitFire Spark plugs. It works as the normal Renault spark plugs
(so, i replaced it with new original Renault ones).
Also, i fitted 17'' nickel chrome rims (225/45), making the car a lot more stable prior to my original stock ones (195/65).
MrAsia, have u noticed any difference with the irridium spark plugs?? as i was told by Renault that irridium spark have a conflict with megane cars electronically, beside it doesn't have noticeable effect. (like power, acceleration or response).

The bigger the rims the slower your acceleration, I stuck to my 16" stock rims.
When I first put in the new sparks the first thing I noticed was that it had a way smoother idle. I would like to think it's more responsive also.
And with conflict, I've had them in my car for over 25,000km and not a single problem at all.
