Hands free card..any good?

Postby rowland75 » Wed Jun 13, 2007 5:38 pm

Hi

Just ordering a new GT diesel, in eclipse grey.

Im not bothered about too many add ons but the hands free card is a possibility.

Is it as good as it sounds, and worth £250?

Cheers

Pete

When it works its great, but it does have quite well known reliability problems, even with the latest cars (my 06 was starting to play up)

One out of warranty I believe the handles are around £250 each

Having said the above it really is a great thing to have as the the Key Card on non Hands-Free cars are quite fiddly IMO to use as the buttons are not clearly marked and not having to worry about fumbling for your keys is great :)

I like it to, but it's been problematic, 4 door handles replaced and 2 IR sensors in less than 2 years

How is the realiability on the newest cars? The ones on the clio have been faultless so far.

IMHO the hands free is great - makes sense of the card idea. I just keep the card in my wallet and never touch it. If you needed to push the buttons and stick it in the dash then to my mind an actual key would be better 'cos then you could put it on your keyring with your house keys etc and not worry about it getting broken! Regarding reliability, we have two hands free cars. The CC is 28 months old and never had a problem with it, the tourer is 23 months old and the first sensor has just been replaced, so I am a bit concerned about how soon the others will go now its almost out of warranty (over 60K miles)
At the end of the day... ..it gets dark

Thanks for all the replies.

I ordered my megane without the handsfree kit, as there seemed to be a lot of people who have had problems, and on here it appears the same.

Cheers guys

I'm curious to know if BMW's wireless system or possibly even FIAT's KeylessGo system is any better compared to Renault.

I've had a problem on one handle but that's it in 26 months of owning the car.
