Hi guys, I've been asked by my Father-in-Law for some info about his 2005 Megane. He likes to do everything he can to ensure his car remains in excellent condition - he's had it from new. What he is after is the correct specification for the gearbox oil for his 1600 petrol, manual Megane. I come across this forum and thought that someone would know this piece of info, so any help would be good. Cheers.

Standard: 1.6vvt engine - JH3 manual gearbox - Tranself NFJ 75w80 oil - 2.8L
This oil has 47/8.5cst cold/hot viscosity, viscosity index 175, it has hydrocracked mineral basestock.
The factory fill for your dad's car was probably TRX, which was not as good.

Tranself NFP 75w80 is more advanced (Potassium borate dispersion technology) and used in modern Renaultsport gearboxes, 36/7.6cst, viscosity index 192.

In ELF terms NFJ is for Jxx boxes and NFP is for PXX, JXX, NDX, TL4 boxes. NFP is much more advanced.

Motul Gear 300 75w90, ester-based racing oil, approved for road cars, 72.6/15.2cst, viscosity index 222, good in winter (pour point -60C), incredibly good gearshift, compatible with all metals.
