Just DOT4 brake fluid is not good enough!

In case someone did not see the factory manuals for Megane III, which might be also applicable to Megane II...

They recommend DOT4 ISO 4925 Class 6 for ESP systems, DOT4 ISO 4925 Class 4 for ABS and emergency brake assistance systems and DOT4 non-classed for the systems which we don't have in the UK. Widely available DOT5.1 is approximately equivalent to ISO 4925 Class 6.

As a guideline, DOT4 ISO 4925 Class 6 and DOT5.1 are about half as thick as DOT4 ISO 4925 Class 4 at low temperatures. A basic non-classed DOT4 can be tree times thicker than the good stuff. Wet and dry boiling points of DOT4 Class 6 and DOT5.1 are typically significantly higher than of DOT4 Class 4 or non-classed (apart from the racing fluids like Motul RBF600 or RBF660).

Any of these fluids need to be changed every second year.

Conclusion: buy DOT4 Class 6 or DOT5.1 for your car.
