Key Card 2011?

Postby Kimbo » Sat May 07, 2011 4:40 am

Ok I've now spent over two hours on the internet (including 45mins at the Owners Club (who's information seems seems locked at 2006) and I'm utterly confused as to what to do about a new key card for my Megane. The advice seems to change at every turn, and often seems contradictory. The Australian sites are particularly difficult to glean current information from. Ultimately, I trust the Owners Club above all others.
I live in Canberra, Australia and drive a Megane Dynamique LX (2003). (I love this car, though it has caused me great pain). My only key is on the blink, and I'm loathe to approach local renault garages as they disgust me with their overcharging. I have literally saved thousands by coming to this site. So please, one last time:

As we stand in the year 2011, what is the most prudent course to take to get a replacement key card?

The key card has to be coded to the car
This can only be done at the dealers
A code is emailed from Renault in France to the dealer and is valid for only 30 mins
Sorry for the bad news

"A code is emailed from Renault in France to the dealer and is valid for only 30 mins"
This part doesn't make sense.

However, I do understand what you're saying. Basically, my key is sent from Renault in France locked, and is activated by my local Renault dealer when receives the activation code.
Is there no way I could order the Key from Renault in France myself, and simply have my local dealer activate it? They're going to hit me big time on the Key cost otherwise.

BTW Thanks for answering. They're still advertising these keys on Ebay which is patently fraudulent.
