I NEED A LOT OF HELP WITH MY CAR.
I have the Rebault Sport Megane 225 (5 door 04 plate edition). My turbo has gone and i'm trying to get quotes to have it repaired. I have been advised by an independant garage to go to Renault to have it fixed due to tools required etc.

Renault have quoted me £2845 for the repair. They claim this includes 10 hours worth of labour, the cost of the turbo and the gaskets etc. They have also said that it is this much because they need to remove the engine, filter and replace the oil and some other things like the air hoses - or something like that!!

Can anyone help me and advise me?? People i have told are really baffled as they have never heard of the engine needing to be removed to fix the turbo!!!

Please reply soon - i need to get to work. LOL

Thanks for your time
Tami

you could try sourcing a recon turbo. lot cheaper but generally only come with a 3 month warranty

What mileage has the car done and what sort of oil have you been using in it?

I've not heard about turbo's failing on 225's before but obviously it does and has happened to you.

Having never seen under the bonnet of a 225 I don't know where the turbo is located and how tight space is, but I am surprised that that they need to remove the engine. On a Diesel the turbo is reasonably easy to get at and I don't think it's an engine out job to replace it?

As far as replacement turbo's go, get a good one and make sure it's got a good warranty as you don't want to replace it again in the near future. £2800 is a hell of a lot of money and I am sure that you could get it done a for a lot less at a turbo specialist or good independent garage.
