Hi Guys n Gals,

I'm a proper novice when it comes to this sort of stuff but happy to have a go......I'm looking at swapping the oem horn of shame for a stebel tm80 magnum and was wondering where the fuse for the horn is located? I dont have a manual unfortunately :-(??

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

The fuse for the horn Is located in the glovebox under a flap. (the other car fuses are under the bonnet to the right of the battery)

If you are installing that horn I suggest you install a relay also. Due to the loading on the standard wiring harness.

I found this thread useful in tackling fitting new horns to my 2007 CC.

I had a new pair of twin tone horns that I bought about 10 years ago for a kit car but never got round to fitting them to it. Both horns are 60db so I wasn't sure whether they would be louder than what I was taking off but swapping these for louder ones would be easy once all the wiring changes had been done.
Removing the grill was a concern and so I followed the advice and used masking tape and a torch to locate the lugs.

Image

This shows the grill once removed and you can see where the lugs on the grill itself fit into the 3 rectangular'ish holes in the bumper. I used 2 table knives, covered both in masking tape as well as the bumper and levered the grill upwards from the bottom. Once the bottom is released, pivot the bottom of the grill towards you and the top of the grill will come out.
Whenever I modify a car I always try and make the change reversible and so I wanted the make the wiring to the new horns removable. I cut the vehicle loom just behind the connector to the standard horn and installed a two wire connector to both the vehicle loom (male end) and the remainder of the loom to the original horn connector (female end) so it could be reinstalled if needed. I soldered all the joints.

I then used another female end to make up a loom to both the new horns. I sprayed all the connectors with silicone grease to keep moisture out.

Next was to fit the two brackets for the new horns which I mounted to the same bolt as the original horn bracket was secured with.

Horns went on next, connecting the wires first to make life easier. I used stainless nylock nuts so I know I'll be able to undo them in the future.

A quick test proved they work, a much better tone but still not loud enough so I'll find some louder ones in the near future which will simply entail unbolting these ones and swapping the new ones onto the same brackets and wiring connectors.

I know it's been mentioned in an earlier post, but don't forget to position the bonnet release as you refit the grill, very easy to forget  !

One question for others who have already found loud ones, what db are they and have needed to fit a relay or does the existing wiring cope ?

Thanks

David
