Just a quick one to help tomorrow. Can't remember the ring spanner or allen key sizes apart from I'm sure you need a offset 18mm ring spanner for removing the top mount. Think the anti-roll bar nut is a weird size too.
FRONT SPRINGS1 - jack it up and put on axle stands
2 - wheel off
3 - trolley jack under front arm and string (Needed to support arm and tie up hub so arm doesn't drop too far and stops drive shaft popping out of gearbox)
4 - spray bottom of strut at hub with wd-40 (so it has time to work while you do the rest)
5 - unclip brake hose from and abs wire
6 - undo anti-roll bar drop link (allen key and ring spanner)
7 - undo and remove pinch bolt at strut/hub (strut will be tight fit, use wood and hammer to hit hub down free of strut)
8 - remove or cut the plastic panel covering the top strut mount ( I cut mine and taped it back after)
9 - undo 3 x top bolts (ring spanner best for this as on or two almost under bulkhead) remember to hold strut too as it'll drop out now
Strut should now be free so time to compress springs. Do so evenly until coils are nearly touching, be careful now as it gets dangerous
Allen key into top of strut and a
offset ring spanner ( i had to hunt high and low for this took all day to find one at a motor factors), undo nut but if you it feels tight after the nyloc section of the nut is off the thread the spring isn't compressed enough.
DO NOT UNDO unless you are sure the spring is fully compressed.
Once loose remove top mount plate/bearing and spring.
Loosen spring compressors straight away after removing from strut, evenly and carefully as bloody lethal if they come off
Clean up where spring seats on strut and top mount plate
You are now half way
To re-assemble compress spring, fit to strut, fit top mount plate and tighten with allen key and offset ring spanner. Loosen spring compressors evenly and carefully.
Offer strut to car and fit 3x top mount bolts
Now I found it easier to jack up the hub onto the strut than to try to lift it up yourself, once fitted do the pinch bolt
Refit and tighten anti roll bar with allen key and ring spanner
Refit brake and ABS cable and thats you done.
Torquesanti-roll bar nut 44 nm
strut pinch bolt 105 nm
strut upper mount bolt 21 nm
I just did them as tight as I could get them, nothings fallen off the car yet (touch wood, cross fingers etc)
Rears should be about 20-30 mins. Easier to put car on stands and do both sides together as both suspension struts need to be loose to drop the trailing arm.
Fronts maybe an hour for the first then less for the second as you know what your doing, just take your time compressing and un-compressing springs.
Hope this helps
