Bastarding CV joint gone again in less than 24 hours

Postby Paddy » Sat Aug 15, 2009 11:00 pm

Well after breaking my CV joint I had got it fixed by Renault with a genuine part. I proceeded to drive less than 20 miles and the bloody thing has broken again!

Took the wheel off and collected one of the bearings up from the floor cover with a good amount of fresh grease all over the engine as the gator retention clip went.

£200 it cost me less than 48 hours ago... Someone is having a laugh!

Well straight back Monday morning for another Drive Shaft, this time it will be curtsey of Renault.

I nearly released a tear when I heard/felt it go again... :cry

UPDATE:

Phoned Renault today they want the car back in to check the engine mounts?

They will then look at the part. Although they have mentioned that because my car is lowered this could void the warranty of the new part? Is this correct?(My car is 4 years old so not under full warranty, just the one year warranty for the new part) It is up to them to put the problem right is it not as its a brand new part that has failed.

If there was something else damaged the boot that the CV joint sits in is the garage not liable as they should have noticed and fixed this in the first place.

Ill be taking it down tomorrow morning will be interested to see what they have to say.

Surely they have to replace it as a new part like this should go in 24 hours?

lowering will put more presure on it, but it should last alot longer than that. engines mounts makes sense, if the engine is moving backward and foreward more than its supposed to this will wear the shafts out very quickly, but still more than that time. sounds to me like its a faulty part or fitted by a 5 year old :x

Ive had loads of lowered cars, never had a problem with drive shafts. Driveshafts are designed to move in various configurations.

UPDATE 2

After fighting it out with Reanult UK i have had quite the result...

There are going to replace the full drive shaft and the suspension bearing but just to make sure they said they will fit, a new damper and wheel hub. The full right hand corner of the car really. This will cost me nothing and they have provided a 1.6 clio untill the job is done! ( This will have the life driven out of it!)

I couldnt believe it when i got the letter. You have to remember this is a 4YO car and well out of warenty. I was just wanting the Drive Shaft replaced and was prepaired to pay for the strut bearing.... I think they see it as quite a saftey problem.... 2 drive shafts in 2 days...

There is one condition... I have to replace my knoi springs with the original.(well untill i get the car back at least!)

Pretty sure mines gone, proper loud clicking noise from near side when turning.

WIll check boot when i leave work. More bloody money on the car!

Anyone no how hard it is to change, bear in mind it will be stripped soon to get the top mount bearings out and new springs in.

I'm thinking the amount of work i need changing on the front suspension/steering, im getting the parts and getting a grease monkey to do it in one hit!
