What oil for 08 1.4
Hi all, just wondering what oil other owners would recommend for my 08 1.4, as 18000 miles seems a bit long between changes, i was thinking Mobil 1 0W40 and a genuine Renault filter every 9000 miles.
Re: What oil for 08 1.4
Use a genuine Renault filter for the sake of your warranty. As for oil, you have a choice of 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30 or 10W-40 to specification ACEA A1, A3 or A5.

... and Mobil 1 0w40, which is better than most 5w30/40 oils this is because there is no way of composing a 0w40 oil from cheap basestocks.
There is no need to do again the job, which has been done by several car manufacturers. Mercedes, for example, uses a set of sophisticated tests to characterise oils. I would trust them and choose the one with MB229.3 or MB229.5 on the label. These cover and exceed the minimum specification listed in the handbook for 1.4-1.6 Meg2. See a few examples here:
MB229.3 (much better than what the dealers use)
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-719-2293.aspx
MB229.5 (the best and long-life)
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-721-2295.aspx
If you want a short answer, then pick one of these:
Motul 8100 X-max 5W-30 -- this one is a proper synthetic, PAO+ester
Mobil 1 0w40 -- "you can't go wrong with this", as Oilman said.

Re: What oil for 08 1.4
Yes (IMHO)
... unless it is a turbo version which calls for Xw40 according to the manual (M1 0w40 is OK)
... and unless you race it, in which case you need to ask oilman.
Please note that MB229.3 are also very good oils -- they just need to be changed more frequently. Some of them are of almost racing performance, e.g. Motul 8100 X- lite 0W-30 (ester based).
OPIEOILS have extended their special offer until Wed 11/02/2009. A further discount is given to the club members if you register with them.
