Ciggy lighter removal

Postby PatBoySlimUK » Tue Jan 13, 2009 12:49 pm

Been fobbed of by the main dealer,None of my 12v accessories work in the cigarette lighter socket,Main dealer reckons that the megan cigarette lighter isnt a 12v socket as such, you have either a ciggy lighter or 12v socket and its not both.Cost to add 12v socket £78.
Posted this in other subjects and all people who have replied said this is not true.
Tried to remove said ciggy lighter and it comes so far out but then something is stopping it,Has anyone removed one,if so whats the process and a bonus would be a pic of removed lighter socket so I can see whats keeping it in.

According to this it looks like you have to remove the trim around the gearstick to get it out.

Spoke to Renault UK and they confirmed that this IS the case in the priviledge models.
Just another way of charging money, like the headlight bulb scam.

Gotta laugh, I'd partly pulled the cigarette lighter out including the orange surround, but as you were aware something was keeping it in. Just went and pulled and it came out of the orange housing. So just need to get 12v socket now! Might pop up to just renaults or see how much the main stealer want, the £78 quoted was i'd say mostly labour (£73ph they charge).

What a load crap. How is the lighter ment to heat up without a 12V source? how can one be different from another? If so must be the only car manufacture out there that does this. Anyway.. whats the spec of your saloon? Its nice in white... but would be nicer with colour codeing.

Did you get your hid bulbs? Still good for a few photos?

i managed to get mine out without removing anything. The thing holding it in at mo is probably the little bulb that lights up when you use the socket. it should come out if u pull it at the right angle.

mine does both but didnt when i bought it cause it had been over used by a smoker :(

i took it out, cleaned it up and it now does both again!

the only thing is, if you pull it out, it never quite goes back quite as well. Mine is now a loose fit.

let us know how you get on with that reverse kit, it's something i have been thinking about doing but the thought of cutting the bumper and cocking it up makes me a bit nervous about doing it

Seems very easy to fit, drill supplied with the kit,and one wire to earth and one to the reverse light ! 4 sensors plug into control box.
Something I've learnt over the years is preperation ! Masking tape so I dont scratch the bumper and I can mark the spaces out with a pen.
